Krewe of Barkus

We started the Krewe of Barkus in either 2007 or 2008 and the first year we tried to make a giant paper mache dog – it was kind of a disaster! The next year we put up a “fence” around the float and drew pictures of our dogs’ faces and handpainted them.  We have chosen a King dog and a Queen dog each year and they sit in the chairs at the back of the float.

The themes have varied over the years, including Dog House Rock, Alice In Wonderland, Disney, and more. We have partnered with different rescue organizations at times through the years in an effort to showcase some of the dogs that need homes. Mostly we just have fun doing something in a public setting with our dogs!
